Black Achievers Award
The Black Achievers Award was founded by Real Talk TV supporter Merlita Bryan. Here she talks about why she set scheme up and her passion for the cause.
“When I started the Black Achievers Award in 2011, the aim was to recognise and promote the achievements of black men and to dismiss the stereotype that many face on a daily basis.
Within our community we have hard working young men doing exceptionally well, but you never get to hear about their success. So to showcase these talents and successes of our men, by changing the mood and perception back in 2011, an event was held. After the initial very successful award ceremony, I decided to include the women, who are also hard working, creative and inspirational.
Over the last nine years, I am pleased to announce that with a small team of people who are aspired to my cause, we have fulfilled that dream to the extent that the Black Achievers Award has gone from strength to strength and has become very successful.
I would sincerely like to thank our sponsors for believing in my cause and have continued to support us. The people who have taken the time to nominate friends, family and people they felt deserve to be recognised for their hard work and dedication to our City. Congratulations to all who have been nominated and well done to those who received an award.
Also, thank you to all who have helped me over the years by volunteering their time to make this happen. Unfortunately due to the pandemic this year, we could not go ahead with our planned event for October 2020. But 2021 will be the tenth year of this fantastic event; we are very excited and are in the early stages of planning.
We will be re-launching the new look program in the spring of 2021, with some new categories. We hope that you will continue to support this very special event and what it brings to our City of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, real talent, dedication and exceptional role models.
Looking forward to 2021!
