A pair of Nottingham musicians have taken home the trophy for best song of the year at the Mobo Awards 2020.
The award show and UK’s biggest celebration of Black music was live-streamed on Wednesday (December 9) through YouTube, hosted hosted by Maya Jama and Chunkz.
Young T and Bugsey who take inspiration from the city they hail from, have enjoyed a successful year with their viral hit, ‘Don’t Rush’.
In a category voted for by the public, the song was crowned the best of 2020 after it featured in TikTok videos of people transforming into their most glammed up outfits.
The ‘Don’t Rush challenge’ and its namesake soundtrack have had more than 900 million views on the app.
Drill rapper Headie One was named best male act, beating Stormzy.
His album, Edna, topped the UK charts in October and his track ‘Ain’t it Different’ spent nine weeks in the Top 5.
He also featured on the Young T and Bugsey song of the year.
After the award winners were revealed on Wednesday evening the duo tweeted: “MOBO Award’s 2020 best song of the year love to everyone who voted and has been supporting us all year.
“Love to Nottingham and the 5ive! 2021 more bangers coming soon. Let’s geddit!!!”
Responding to the tweet, one wrote: “Representing Nottingham and making us proud.
